The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Badagry Local Government Area has reaffirmed its internal unity and renewed commitment to rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, even as it joined the rest of the state and nation in mourning the transition of the Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I.

Party leaders and members converged at a strategic meeting in Badagry where they described the renewed togetherness within the party as a product of divine intervention and collective resolve. The gathering focused on strengthening internal cohesion, mobilising the grassroots and repositioning the PDP as a strong political force in the Badagry axis.

Addressing party faithful, the Chairman of the PDP in Badagry Local Government Area, Chief Kazeem Kappo, urged members to remain loyal to the ideals of the party and committed to its growth. He emphasised that unity, discipline and collective sacrifice would be critical to the party’s electoral success in 2027.

Chief Kappo also led the party in observing a moment of reflection and condolence over the passing of the #Akran of Badagry. He described the late monarch as a means of unity and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul, as well as continued peace and harmony in Badagry during the official mourning period.

In his remarks, the PDP Local Government Secretary, Chief Olufemi Doheto Hunga, charged members of the party’s Central Committee to work assiduously towards revamping the Badagry chapter of the PDP. According to him, strategic planning, grassroots mobilisation and unity of purpose would be key to transforming the party into a winning platform.

Several notable party leaders attended the meeting, underscoring its significance. They included Chief Olaomo Kufisile, Alhaji Alani Ajose, Chief S. S. Hunwi, Chief (Mrs.) Bolanle Osanyinbi, and Elder Benjamin Akovoyon, among other stakeholders.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the party in Badagry LGA, Hon. Abiodun Sewanu Gbowu, commended party executives and leaders for remaining steadfast despite the party’s current challenges. He expressed confidence that with unity and determination, the PDP would reclaim elective offices in Badagry during the 2027 elections.

Chief Kappo further appealed to prominent party leaders, including Hon. Gbemenu Koshoedo, Elder Philip Aivoji (State Chairman of the Party) and Prince Yomi Ogungbe, to continue their support for the party’s rebuilding efforts in Badagry.

Meanwhile, at the state level, the newly elected Lagos State Executive Committee of the PDP also issued a formal statement mourning the passing of the Akran of Badagry. In a condolence message signed by the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary-Elect, Prince Dr. Christopher O. Odianarewo, the party described the late monarch as a towering symbol of integrity, peace and principled leadership.

The Lagos PDP Exco-Elect extended its condolences to the Royal Family, the Council of Chiefs and the entire Badagry Kingdom, while also sympathising with prominent Badagry indigenes and party leaders, including Hon. Philip #Aivoji and Hon. Setonji Koshedo, describing the monarch as a father, mentor and unifying figure.

According to the statement, the reign of De Wheno #Aholu Menu-Toyi I was marked by wisdom, courage and an unwavering commitment to justice and the welfare of his people, virtues that have left a lasting imprint on Badagry’s history.

The PDP prayed for the eternal rest of the monarch and for strength for the people of Badagry as they navigate this moment of collective loss.
