A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bonu Solomon, has assured residents of Badagry that the process of selecting the next #Akran of Badagry will strictly follow established tradition, due process and collective wisdom.

The lawmaker gave the assurance on Friday, 16 January 2026, while speaking with journalists at the palace of the late Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi I.

Hon. Solomon urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding throughout the mourning period, describing Badagry as a historically peaceful and culturally disciplined community.

He cautioned against actions capable of creating tension, stressing that the moment should be approached with maturity and respect for tradition.

According to him, the Lagos State Government and other relevant stakeholders will work closely with the royal council and traditional institutions to ensure a smooth and credible succession process.

The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, for their condolence messages to the people of Badagry, noting that the gestures demonstrated strong institutional support for the kingdom.

He commended residents for standing in solidarity with the royal family and respecting the ongoing traditional rites, describing the collective conduct as a reflection of Badagry’s deep cultural values.

Hon. Solomon further disclosed that steps are already being taken towards the reconstruction of the Badagry Central Palace. He revealed that discussions have been held with the governor and relevant officials, adding that the proposal is currently receiving attention at the highest level of government.

He also acknowledged the role of the Badagry media, praising journalists for their responsible reporting and efforts at promoting unity and calm during the mourning period.
