The Lagos State Government has unveiled a comprehensive traffic diversion arrangement ahead of scheduled maintenance works on the Mazamaza Bridge along the busy #LagosBadagryExpressway.

The plan was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who said the repairs would focus on the bridge’s expansion joints and other structural elements affecting both the service and toll lanes in inbound and outbound directions.

According to the commissioner, the maintenance exercise is expected to span approximately 18 weeks, running from Monday, January 19 through late May. He assured road users that the bridge would remain operational throughout the period, noting that traffic management would rely on phased diversions rather than a complete closure.

Mr Osiyemi explained that the rehabilitation would be executed in clearly defined stages to minimise disruption. A preliminary phase is scheduled to take place over one week, after which full-scale repairs would commence in successive phases covering both directions of the bridge.

He said the first major set of phases would concentrate on lanes heading towards Badagry, with work carried out alternately on the toll and service lanes. During this period, traffic would be redirected between the toll lanes and the BRT corridor, depending on the section under repair, before rejoining the main carriageway shortly after the work zone.

The second set of phases will focus on Lagos-bound traffic, following a similar pattern of controlled diversions between the toll lane, service lane and #BRT corridor. In some sections, traffic flow will be reduced to a single lane near the repair area before returning to full capacity beyond the construction zone.

The commissioner noted that traffic diversions would be clearly marked and coordinated by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority #LASTMA and other relevant agencies to ensure order and safety.

He appealed to motorists and commuters using the Lagos–Badagry corridor to exercise patience, observe traffic signage, and comply with instructions from traffic officers throughout the rehabilitation period.

According to him, the temporary inconveniences are necessary to guarantee the long-term safety and durability of the #Mazamaza Bridge, which serves as a major gateway between Lagos metropolis and the Badagry axis.
