The #Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a historic revenue performance in 2025, generating ₦15.598 billion, a figure that represents a 117 per cent increase over the ₦7.2 billion collected in 2024.

According to a statement by the Command, the revenue surge peaked in December 2025, when the Seme Command generated ₦3.6 billion, the highest monthly revenue ever recorded in the history of the border formation. The development underscores the growing strategic importance of the Seme–Badagry corridor in Nigeria’s cross-border trade and revenue architecture.

#Customs attributed the revenue growth to the effective rollout of the One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative, championed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, which has improved inter-agency coordination, reduced duplication of checks and enhanced trade facilitation for legitimate stakeholders operating along the Lagos–Abidjan axis.

Beyond revenue collection, the Command also recorded notable social and environmental interventions within the border communities. On 11 November 2025, Seme Command hosted the launch of the Green Border Initiative, led by the National President of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi. The programme featured an empowerment scheme that provided industrial sewing machines, grinding machines, gas burners with cylinders and start-up grants to members of the COWA Seme Chapter, many of whom reside within Badagry-axis communities.

On the same day, the Comptroller-General of Customs launched a free medical outreach under the Customs Cares Initiative, delivering essential healthcare services to over 1,000 beneficiaries drawn from border settlements, alongside a tree-planting exercise aimed at promoting environmental sustainability within the Seme corridor.

In line with the Comptroller-General’s directive to improve the ease of doing business, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, also oversaw the reduction of checkpoints along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor to the two locations approved by the Federal Government, a move that significantly eased delays, supported legitimate trade and contributed to the Command’s improved revenue performance.

While facilitating lawful commerce, the Command maintained firm control over border security and anti-smuggling operations. In December 2025 alone, Customs officers seized 685 parcels of Cannabis sativa, 495 packs of Tramadol, and 2,000 packs of Super Power Sildenafil tablets (300mg), a high-dosage sexual enhancement drug, through intelligence-led operations, enhanced patrols, risk profiling and inter-agency collaboration.

Comptroller Adenuga warned that the Seme border is no longer safe for smuggling activities, stressing that offenders will be intercepted and prosecuted using advanced intelligence and technology-driven surveillance.

He assured compliant traders and stakeholders of a safe, efficient and predictable trading environment, noting that the Command remains committed to reducing delays, strengthening confidence and supporting economic growth across the Badagry-Seme corridor.

The Area Controller expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs and Management, as well as officers of the Command, sister security agencies, the military and paramilitary forces, traditional and community leaders, and the media for their cooperation, while pledging even stronger performance and stakeholder engagement in 2026.
