The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has set out infrastructure development, urban renewal and economic growth as the core priorities of his administration for 2026, urging residents to cooperate with the council as it works towards giving Badagry a renewed outlook.

#Hunpe made the remarks in a New Year interview with Eleventh Media, a video of which was later shared on his official Facebook page. The accompanying caption described the engagement as an opportunity to outline what residents should expect in 2026, with a strong emphasis on roads, public facilities and projects designed to improve daily life in Badagry.

In the interview, the chairman said infrastructure development would be the foundation for economic growth, arguing that improved physical infrastructure would attract investors, boost tourism and ultimately improve the livelihoods of residents.

He explained that the administration’s approach was not to displace people but to create a more organised and conducive environment for economic activity. While noting that trading on roads, drainage channels and road setbacks would no longer be permitted, Hunpe said alternative arrangements would be made to support those affected.

“If we vacate people from where they are selling, we will look for another place that is more conducive for their businesses,” he said, appealing for understanding and cooperation from residents.

The chairman added that visible changes would soon be seen across Badagry, particularly around major roundabouts and entry points into the local government area.

According to him, visitors coming from other parts of Lagos, neighbouring #ECOWAS countries and the diaspora would notice a clear physical transformation of the town in 2026.

Hunpe also called on residents to support government programmes by paying their taxes in line with new tax reforms and participating actively in local government activities. He described peace and cooperation as essential to achieving sustainable development.

The chairman extended New Year greetings to Badagrians, expressing optimism about progress, peace and shared prosperity as the local government pursues its development agenda under the theme of a “ #GreaterBadagry ”.

As the year unfolds, residents will be watching closely to see how the administration’s infrastructure-focused strategy translates into tangible improvements across communities within Badagry Local Government.
