Concerns over representation in Badagry Constituency II have resurfaced following a press release by Ogunlowo Adedoyin, a party member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who has called on the party’s Lagos State leadership to address what he describes as a long-standing imbalance in the allocation of the Lagos State House of Assembly seat.

In an open letter addressed to the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius #Ojelabi , Ogunlowo urged the party to take early steps to promote equitable representation across wards within the constituency as political preparations gradually build towards the 2027 elections.

According to him, Badagry Constituency II has seen representation rotate among a limited number of wards since Nigeria’s return to democratic governance in 1999. Ogunlowo outlined that Ward C (Ibereko) in Olorunda LCDA held the seat between 1999 and 2007, followed by Ward I (Ikoga) in Badagry Local Government Area from 2007 to 2015. Since 2015, the position has remained with Ward J (Ajara Vetho), also in Badagry LGA, a tenure projected to reach 12 years by 2027.

The #APC stakeholder noted that despite more than 28 years of uninterrupted democracy, two wards within the constituency — Ward H (Araromi/Ilogbo) in Olorunda LCDA and Ward K (Ajara) in #Badagry LGA — have never produced a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly. He described this situation as a source of growing concern among grassroots members and party loyalists in the affected communities.

In the statement, #Ogunlowo argued that prolonged exclusion of any ward could weaken party morale and undermine grassroots mobilisation. He also warned that allowing the seat to remain concentrated within the same local government could deepen perceptions of imbalance, particularly in #Olorunda LCDA.

As part of a proposed solution, the press release suggested a rotational sequence that would prioritise previously excluded wards. Under the proposal, Ward H in Olorunda LCDA would be considered for the 2027–2035 period, followed by Ward K in Badagry LGA between 2035 and 2043. Ogunlowo said such an approach would promote balance between the two local governments and help preserve internal cohesion within the APC.

While the letter stopped short of endorsing any individual aspirant, it called on the state party leadership to encourage consultations and guided consensus well ahead of the next electoral cycle, stressing that early intervention could prevent avoidable disputes during party primaries.

Ogunlowo’s intervention carries weight within local APC structures. His political antecedents include serving as Personal Assistant on Political Matters to the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA between 2008 and 2013, as well as holding party positions such as Ward Auditor and Assistant Organising Secretary in Olorunda LCDA. He has also worked in media and strategy roles for various APC campaign organisations, including the Badagry Campaign for Asiwaju and recent local government chairmanship campaigns.

The press release concludes by reaffirming loyalty to the APC, framing the appeal as an effort to strengthen party unity and long-term stability in Badagry Constituency II rather than a challenge to the party’s leadership.

As discussions around 2027 begin to gather momentum, observers say the response of party leaders to such calls may shape not only candidate selection, but also grassroots confidence and engagement across the constituency.
