A University of Lagos undergraduate, Master Bello Jesufolahan Elijah, has written a heartfelt letter of appreciation to Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun #Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, following the payment of his first-year tuition fees under the lawmaker’s scholarship programme.

Jesufolahan, a 17-year-old resident of #Aradagun, Badagry, confirmed that ₦330,000 covering his 100-level tuition at #UNILAG was fully paid through Hon. Whingan’s initiative. The scholarship is part of a broader programme designed to reward academic excellence and ease the financial burden of higher education for brilliant but indigent students across the constituency.



What makes Jesufolahan’s story even more remarkable is the journey that led him here. Living off Itoga Road near Miracle Estate, he was forced to drop out of Lightbearers College, Aradagun, during the third term of SS3 due to financial difficulties. “I couldn’t continue because we couldn’t afford my school fees,” he recalled. “It was painful, especially in my final year, but I just knew I wasn’t going to let that be the end of my journey.”

Despite leaving school early, Jesufolahan remained determined to sit for his WAEC exams, registering through the same school. Support came in the form of Mr. Sunday Okoye, a teacher at Lightbearers College, who provided mentorship, tutorials, and financial help for essential exam preparation tools. With relentless discipline and guidance, Jesufolahan went on to excel in the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), emerging as the highest scorer in Badagry Federal Constituency with a remarkable 362 points.

The scholarship award has now made it possible for Jesufolahan to pursue his ambition of studying Computer Science at UNILAG. Known as a passionate tech enthusiast with a strong interest in innovation and problem-solving, he has pledged to use the opportunity wisely. In his letter to Hon. Whingan, he expressed gratitude, acknowledging that the scholarship had lifted a major financial burden off his family and strengthened his determination to remain focused in his studies.
