(Go Down)In a statement addressing concerns raised by POS operators through Arebi Oluranti Zechariah, Hon. Hunpe clarified that no directive, circular, or approval for such a levy has ever been issued by the local government, its Revenue Committee, or any official council communication channel. The Chairman described any circulating information to the contrary as unauthorised and misleading.
The statement reaffirmed Badagry Local Government’s commitment to fair and lawful revenue administration, emphasizing that any new levy or fee would be subjected to the council’s legislative process, including public consultations with community leaders and relevant associations.
Hon. #Hunpe highlighted that the local government recently empowered 100 citizens with POS machines and start-up capital as part of the administration’s 100-day celebration, reinforcing its support for financial inclusion and the sustainability of POS operators.
The Revenue Committee, headed by Mr. Sunday Agosu, a retired council treasurer, is responsible for ensuring that all revenue initiatives align with statutory frameworks and do not stifle legitimate enterprise.
The Chairman called on stakeholders to continue engaging responsibly with the local government, assuring that POS operators and other entrepreneurs remain valued partners in fostering financial inclusion and community development.
“Badagry Local Government values the role POS operators play in deepening financial inclusion, supporting livelihoods, and providing essential services to our communities. We remain open to collaboration to ensure revenue administration supports, rather than stifles, legitimate enterprise,” the statement said.
