The Lagos State Police Command has dismantled a robbery gang accused of targeting commercial motorcyclists in Badagry, following a violent attack on an okada rider that nearly claimed his life.

Operatives of the CP Special Squad 1, led by Superintendent of Police Banti Adamu, arrested six suspected members of the syndicate after investigations linked them to a coordinated assault on a rider, Haruna Adamu, in the Badagry axis of the state. Police sources said the suspects attempted to kill the victim while trying to dispossess him of his motorcycle.

Those arrested were identified as Ayomide Bodunde, Balkis Ayanwale, Oke Edafe, Sunday Isaac Dosu, also known as Olumo, and Idowu Oluwafemi Jelili. Items recovered from the suspects included a locally fabricated single-barrelled pistol and a mobile phone believed to have been stolen during one of their operations.

According to police findings, the attack that exposed the gang occurred on November 19, 2025, when Ayomide Bodunde allegedly pretended to be a passenger and hired the victim from Badagry Roundabout to the Elija area. On arrival, she reportedly asked the rider to stop under the guise of paying his fare, after which three armed men emerged. During the struggle, the rider was shot in the abdomen, and his motorcycle was forcefully taken.

Ayomide, a 33-year-old woman, was arrested on November 24, 2025, in Badagry and later transferred to the state command headquarters over allegations bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, and attempted murder.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Balkis Ayanwale on January 9, 2026, whom police described as responsible for scouting locations and luring unsuspecting riders to ambush points within Badagry.

Confessional statements from the two suspects reportedly led officers to Oke Edafe, arrested on January 13, 2026. Edafe, an ex-convict from Isoko Local Government Area of Delta State, was said to have previously served a jail term for a similar offence and was identified as the gunman who shot the victim during the Badagry attack.

Subsequent leads resulted in the arrest of Sunday Isaac Dosu, alias Olumo, on January 16, 2026, while Idowu Oluwafemi Jelili was later picked up for allegedly specialising in knocking riders unconscious with a hammer before stealing their motorcycles.

Police also disclosed that the suspected leader of the gang, known simply as Adeh, was lynched by a mob in December 2025 during an operation in the Akesan area of Igando. His remains were later deposited at the Mainland Hospital in Yaba.

A single-barrelled locally made firearm linked to the syndicate was recovered in Elija, Badagry, while another weapon allegedly used by the group is believed to be in the possession of a suspect still at large.

Police said investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and curb motorcycle-related robberies in Badagry and other parts of Lagos.
