The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, has emphasised the importance of discipline, strong character, and high academic performance among students during the 2025/2026 LASUSBAS Orientation Programme at the university’s Badagry Campus. Addressing newly admitted students,

Professor Bello described the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme as a rigorous academic bridge designed to prepare students for full undergraduate status.

According to the Vice Chancellor, progression into 200 level is not automatic. Students must demonstrate consistent academic excellence, adhere strictly to university regulations, and maintain exemplary conduct.

She also reiterated LASU’s zero-tolerance policy on academic misconduct and anti-social behaviour, underscoring the institution’s commitment to fostering a disciplined and merit-driven academic environment.

The orientation was graced by Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, who reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to supporting educational development and ensuring a safe, conducive environment for students. #Hunpe commended the Vice Chancellor’s leadership and promised continued collaboration between the local government and the university.
Speaking at the event, Professor Yunus Adeleke Dauda, Director of LASUSBAS, urged students to remain focused and meet the requirements for progression into 200 level.

He highlighted LASU’s expansion under Professor Olatunji Bello, which includes the establishment of four new faculties, and appealed for additional infrastructure such as classrooms, laboratories, hostels, a campus clinic, and a 32-seater utility bus to enhance the learning experience.

It was also revealed that the JUPEB Board plans to introduce Computer Based Testing (CBT) for the 2026 examinations, reflecting LASU’s drive toward digital innovation.

Following the orientation, Hon. Hunpe led Professor Bello and her management team on a condolence visit to the palace of the Akran of Badagry, following the passing of the revered monarch. The visit underscored the enduring relationship between government, academia, and traditional institutions, demonstrating the local government’s respect for cultural and community heritage.

Beyond education, Hon. Hunpe engaged across political and environmental sectors. He attended an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting to appraise the ongoing party e-registration exercise, assess ward-level performance, and strengthen grassroots mobilisation strategies.

In the environmental sector, he received a delegation from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, inspecting Marina Waterfront and Agbalata Market for proposed installation of biodigester public toilets. This initiative aims to improve public hygiene, sanitation, and convenience for residents and visitors within Badagry Local Government Area.
