A former Sole Administrator of Badagry West Local Council Development Area and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry Local Government, Hon. Nuatin Genesis Williams, has challenged elected representatives from the Badagry axis to clearly articulate the development projects expected from the proposed ₦4.4 trillion Lagos State budget for 2026.

Williams made the call in a statement made available to Badagry Today, a community-based news and information platform, as discussions continue over the real value of political representation in the area.

He argued that the passage of the 2026 budget by the Lagos State House of Assembly provides a crucial opportunity for residents to critically assess the performance of their lawmakers beyond media appearances and online engagement.

According to Williams, the budget cycle remains the most appropriate period to measure the seriousness, effectiveness and commitment of elected officials to the welfare of their constituents.

“As debates continue over what qualifies as impactful representation, it is only appropriate to ask what concrete development projects Badagry should expect as the ₦4.4 trillion 2026 Lagos State budget is passed,” he said.

The APC leader emphasised that attracting government projects and lobbying for constituency-specific interventions are core responsibilities of lawmakers, adding that this phase of resource allocation should serve as a benchmark for accountability.

“Beyond social media hype and the tendency to project representatives outside their constitutional duties, this is the period when performance should be objectively assessed,” Williams stated.

He identified several areas where Badagry continues to experience developmental shortfalls, including infrastructure, healthcare, housing, security, energy supply, tourism development and social welfare programmes.

Williams noted that tourism remains Badagry’s strongest comparative advantage and called for deliberate budgetary provisions to unlock the economic potential of the historic coastal town.

“Ensuring that our development deficits are aggressively pursued is a responsibility that must not be compromised,” he added.

The former council administrator concluded by directly challenging Badagry lawmakers to publicly outline the projects and interventions they are pushing for ahead of the 2026 fiscal year.

“So, what exactly should Badagry people expect in the 2026 Lagos State budget?” he asked.

His remarks have since generated discussions within the Badagry community, with residents expressing interest in seeing clearer commitments and tangible outcomes from their elected representatives in the coming year.
