The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has begun preparations to launch the federal government’s Smart School Initiative in Lagos State, with #Iworo #Ajido in Badagry selected as one of the project sites.

An interministerial committee from the Lagos State Government convened a strategic meeting and conducted a site visit to ensure the project’s readiness ahead of its official takeoff.

The initiative, led by the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to modernize basic education by incorporating technology-driven learning, enhancing teacher capacity, and improving school infrastructure.

Mr. Jamiu Ali Balogun, Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, led the delegation, which included officials from the Ministries of Energy and Mineral Resources, Works and Infrastructure, Housing, Local Government, Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, as well as representatives from the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board.

During the site inspection, the committee discussed plans for effective handover, localisation, and sustainable implementation of the smart school program in Badagry. The project is expected to provide students and staff with improved learning environments, while optimizing security and efficient use of available space.

Once fully implemented, the Smart School Initiative will significantly enhance access to quality, technology-driven basic education in Badagry, across Lagos State, and nationwide.
