Mr. Raheem Kehinde Hassan, an outstanding Chemistry teacher at Lagos State Model Senior College, #Kankon, Badagry, has been sponsored as a Fellow of the prestigious Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Programme.

Hassan, who teaches under Lagos State Education District V, will participate in the Spring 2026 cohort of the programme at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, United States. His selection places him among only four successful candidates from Nigeria and one of approximately one hundred educators chosen globally, marking a rare and highly competitive academic honour.

Education stakeholders describe the achievement as a strong endorsement of Hassan’s professional depth, intellectual discipline and unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching. His selection comes shortly after he emerged as the 1st Runner-Up (Second Best Teacher) in Lagos State Education District V, further reinforcing his reputation as an educator whose excellence is sustained rather than incidental.

At Lagos State Model Senior College, Kankon, Hassan is widely regarded as more than a subject teacher. Known for his innovative teaching methods, learner-centred approach and strong mentorship culture, he has consistently inspired students to excel academically while nurturing confidence, curiosity and critical thinking. Colleagues say his dedication has not only elevated student performance but has also enhanced the school’s profile within the district and beyond.

The Fulbright TEA Programme is designed to strengthen teachers’ instructional capacity through advanced coursework, cross-cultural exchange and exposure to global best practices in education. Hassan is expected to leverage the opportunity to deepen his pedagogical expertise, enrich classroom outcomes and contribute meaningfully to educational development in Lagos State and Nigeria upon his return.

Speaking on the milestone, education stakeholders within the school described the achievement as both a personal triumph and a strategic gain for the public education system. They noted that Hassan’s journey underscores the global relevance of Nigerian educators and the impact of sustained professionalism, passion and purpose.

Colleagues at Lagos State Model Senior College, Kankon, expressed profound pride in his accomplishment, noting that his success has rekindled hope among teachers and reinforced confidence in the public school system. As one of the few educators worldwide selected for the programme, they said he carries the trust, admiration and high expectations of his school, district, Lagos State and Nigeria.

Hassan’s selection also reflects positively on the Lagos State Government’s continued investment in education, highlighting the calibre of talent being nurtured within public schools. As he prepares to represent Lagos and Nigeria on the global stage, stakeholders are confident that he will return more empowered, innovative and impactful—continuing to raise the bar for educational excellence and inspiring the next generation of learners and educators alike.
