Badagry has recorded a strong showing in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership e-registration exercise in Lagos State, emerging as one of the top three performing local governments in the state amid intensified grassroots mobilisation.

The development comes as political leaders in the Badagry division continue to rally support for the exercise, with interventions aimed at boosting registration capacity and participation across Badagry Local Government and its adjoining LCDAs.

Speaking after a strategic meeting with APC chairmen and stakeholders at the council secretariat in Ajara, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde #Hunpe, said the registration drive had gained renewed momentum following targeted support from party leaders and grassroots organisations.

According to him, the meeting reviewed the progress of the APC e-registration exercise and assessed areas where logistical and technical support were required to sustain the pace of registration.

“We briefed party leaders on our engagement with Samuel Mawuyon #Ajose and how he has pledged to support the APC membership e-registration process,” Hunpe explained. “As a local government, we cannot do it alone, and his intervention has made a significant difference.”

Hunpe disclosed that Ajose, through the Samuel Mawuyon Ajose Movement, committed to expanding the exercise by doubling registration equipment and personnel deployed across centres in Badagry and neighbouring councils.

That intervention appears to be yielding results.

Official data from the APC Membership E-Registration Dashboard, as reported by Lagos Mirror and updated at 9:00 pm on Friday, January 16, 2026, shows that Badagry Local Government recorded 15,970 registered members, representing 6.2 per cent of total registrations across Lagos State. The figure places Badagry third statewide, behind Ikorodu and Alimosho, and ahead of several traditionally dominant councils.

Party stakeholders have described the performance as a reflection of growing political engagement and renewed grassroots energy within the Badagry axis, long regarded as one of Lagos State’s most culturally significant and politically strategic divisions.

Commenting on the intervention, Dr. Babatunde Mesiwaku, Chairman of the Samuel Mawuyon Ajose Movement in Lagos State, said the organisation provided additional logistics to ensure the exercise was not slowed by technical constraints.

“We supplied 24 new printers and 44 tablets to support the registration process across the three councils,” Mesiwaku said, noting that the goal was to remove bottlenecks and allow residents to register seamlessly.

Observers say Badagry’s position among the top-performing councils highlights the impact of coordinated mobilisation, equipment deployment, and stakeholder collaboration as the APC e-registration exercise continues statewide.

With registration figures still rising, party leaders believe the trend signals increasing grassroots interest ahead of future internal party activities, with Badagry’s performance standing out as a clear statement of political intent from the historic coastal division.
