Heightened attention has shifted to the #Seme border corridor following a coordinated security operation in Ghana that led to the arrest of 53 Nigerian nationals linked to suspected cybercrime activities in parts of Greater Accra.

The multi-agency crackdown, carried out on January 16 and 17, 2026, targeted several residential locations in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija and Tuba.

Ghanaian authorities say the operation was driven by actionable intelligence indicating that young Nigerians were being recruited—often under false pretences—and compelled to engage in cyber-related offences.

Security sources note that previous operations of this nature have resulted in suspects and affected persons being repatriated through the Seme border, reinforcing its strategic importance in cross-border security coordination.

A joint task force comprising Ghana’s National Security, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Police SWAT unit carried out the raids.

Officials differentiated between alleged organisers and those considered victims of trafficking or coercion. Nine individuals were identified as prime suspects, while 44 others found working on laptops in the raided apartments were classified as rescued victims.

Items recovered during the operation included 62 laptop computers, 52 mobile phones and two pump-action guns, underscoring the scale and seriousness of the network.

Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Sam George, confirmed that all arrested persons had been profiled and transferred to the Ghana Immigration Service for further action.

In his public statement, the minister warned foreign nationals—particularly young people—against unverified offers that lure them into Ghana with promises of work or quick income. He also disclosed that some Nigerians apprehended in earlier operations had already been handed over to Nigerian authorities at the Seme border, while others remain on trial in Ghanaian courts.
